Rosemont Inn now serving local, organic breakfast and snacks!
Greetings to our past and future guests!
Throughout 2008 we worked hard to provide more value and a better experience here at the Rosemont Inn. One of the primary ways we accomplished this was by adding organic and local foods to our breakfast and snack preparations.
Over the summer, we began serving local and organic eggs. Caroline and her husband, William, along with their son, Harold have an organic farm in nearby Deansboro, NY. I met Caroline at the Clinton Farmers Market and arranged to purchase her delicious, nutritious eggs for breakfast making at the Inn. What a terrific improvement over “store-bought” eggs! Caroline and her family are increasing their egg production to meet the ever growing demand for their outstanding eggs and other farm products. At the Inn alone, we can easily go through 18 dozen eggs per week (yes, I said per week!)during our busy times.
Later in the autumn, we introduced local, organic dairy products into our menu. Yogurt, half and half, cream, milk and cheeses are now from local farms and organic as much as possible. All of our baked goods are now made with organic evaporated cane juice and it will soon be the sugar filling our sugar bowls as well. (If you want white sugar, just ask and we will bring it to you.)
Next, organic and locally grown potatoes for our Lacey Potato Crisps, Crispy Potato Cubes or Italian Potato Cake graced the Inn breakfast plates. Organic, upstate New York oats now make our signature granola even more nutritious.
Finally, we made the switch to organic soda because it does not contain corn syrup. Hydrogenated fat and high-fructose corn syrup are at the top of my (short) list of banned “food” items. After reading one more article about the health hazards of corn syrup, I decided it was time to improve the nutritional quality of the soft drinks offered here at the Inn. We have not settled on a particular brand, so please let us know what you think of the present offerings.
Please remember that when you stay with us, you are supporting local agriculture as well as family run businesses and farms. We plan to continue adding one new category of local or organic products each quarter as 2009 progresses. Stay tuned for the upcoming improvements!
All the best to you and yours!
